PILOT EPISODE — “The Bamboo That Remembers”

COLD OPEN

A sweeping view of the Lóngshān Bamboo Reserve—sunbeams cutting through tall emerald stalks swaying in the morning wind. Birds chirp. Mist rolls lazily.

A sudden rustle.

TOKITOKI (7) bursts through the brush wearing her signature red-panda hood, cheeks puffed with determination.

Behind her, TOKI, an enormous, lumbering panda, waddles silently with a fresh bamboo shoot in his mouth.

TokiToki
(whispering loudly)
This is it, Toki. Operation: Find-the-Legendary-Glowshroom!

Toki blinks slowly. Keeps chewing.

Something glows faintly deeper in the forest.

TokiToki gasps—
And the ground beneath them suddenly gives out.

They fall—
—straight into a hidden moss cave covered in luminous blue fungi.

Cue theme music.

ACT I

SCENE 1 — The Cave of Glowshrooms

The cave illuminates TokiToki’s face in shimmering light.

TokiToki
(awestruck)
It is real! Dad said it was a ranger myth!

Toki gently pokes one of the mushrooms. It sparkles. He sneezes adorably.

Suddenly—
A low growl echoes from deep inside the cave.

TokiToki freezes.

Toki’s bamboo shoot vibrates faintly in his paw, as if reacting to danger.

Before they can react, the cave shakes—rocks begin to fall.

Toki scoops TokiToki into his arms, lumbering toward the exit, dodging falling stones with surprising agility.

They burst out of the cave just as it collapses behind them.

TokiToki exhales, relieved. Then—

TokiToki
So… maybe we don’t tell Dad about this part.

Toki shrugs.

SCENE 2 — Home With Dad

At their quaint ranger cabin, RANGER LIU sits polishing his field binoculars.

He looks up sharply as muddy, panting TokiToki and dusty Toki enter.

Ranger Liu
TokiToki…
(long sigh)
Glowing… mushrooms again?

TokiToki nods sheepishly.

Ranger Liu kneels to her level, giving one of his calm-dad speeches.

Ranger Liu
Curiosity is a gift.
But the forest can be dangerous, even for rangers.
You must promise to be careful.

TokiToki fidgets.

TokiToki
But we were!
Right, Toki?

Toki gives a very slow, very unsure nod.

Liu can’t help but smile.

He ruffles her hair.

Ranger Liu
Dinner in ten.
And both of you—wash up.

Toki groans; TokiToki giggles.

ACT II

SCENE 3 — Shadows in the Bamboo

Later that evening, while Ranger Liu is on a call, Toki sniffs the air. Something’s off.

He stands up—alert.

TokiToki notices too. Outside, bamboo rustles unnaturally.

They step outside to investigate. The moonlight reveals…

A strange mechanical beetle skittering through the grass, scanning the area with a red beam.

TokiToki crouches.

TokiToki
That is not a forest bug.

The beetle’s sensors lock on them.

It emits a piercing chirp-chirp-chirp—an alarm.

Suddenly, two shadowy poachers emerge from the trees wearing high-tech gear.

Poacher #1
There’s the panda.
The one from the files.
The rare one.

Toki’s bamboo shoot glows faintly—
He steps protectively in front of TokiToki.

SCENE 4 — The First Transformation

Poacher #2 fires a net cannon.

TokiToki yanks on Toki’s fur—

Toki! Do the thing! Do the thing!

Toki hesitates, then takes a deep breath.

The bamboo shoot in his paw emits a bright burst—
SHIIIIING!

In a swirl of green energy, it elongates into a shimmering bamboo staff etched with ancient runes.

Toki’s eyes glow with emerald fire.

He twirls the staff with sudden mastery, deflecting the net with a resonant CLANG.

Poacher #1 stumbles back.

Poacher #1
The legends were true.

Toki leaps, moving impossibly fast for his size. He whacks the poachers’ gear, knocking their weapons into the trees.

TokiToki cheers wildly.

TokiToki
YES! Get ‘em!

One poacher triggers a smoke bomb. They escape into the woods.

Toki’s glow fades. He slumps, exhausted but unharmed.

TokiToki hugs him tightly.

ACT III

SCENE 5 — Aftermath

Ranger Liu rushes outside, having heard the commotion.

He’s shaken—but checks Toki and TokiToki thoroughly.

Ranger Liu
They were after you, Toki…
Just like before.

Toki lowers his head, remembering the night he lost his mother.

Ranger Liu kneels beside him.

Ranger Liu
You’re family.
And family protects one another.

TokiToki squeezes Toki’s paw.

TokiToki
We’ll protect you too, Toki.
All three of us.

The ranger embraces them both.

SCENE 6 — The Hook

Later, the escaped poachers report back through a cracked comm device.

A distorted voice responds:

Voice
So the panda survives… and the staff awakens.
Retrieve them both.
At all costs.

The voice clicks off.

Cut to:

Toki, gazing at the bamboo staff before it shrinks back into an ordinary shoot. He looks worried—but then TokiToki leans against him with a confident smile.

TokiToki
Don’t worry, big guy.
Whatever’s coming… we’ll face it together.

Toki nods slowly, chewing the bamboo with renewed determination.

Fade out.
